On Friday, February 28th at the Air Warfare Symposium in Orlando, Florida, Elon Musk predicted that the Chinese ecomony could surpass the US economy by two or even three times. He had also made the claim that economics is the foundation of warfare and that if the US cannot keep up with China's economy, then the US would have to take the lead in terms of innovation. Currently, the US economy is on top with over $21 trillion GDP while China is gaining with just over $14 trillion. Contributing factors that were mentioned in the article were the disparity between the population in China (1.3 billion people) and the US (330 million people) as well as the current trade war between the two and the development of 5G technology. Musk is pushing his SpaceX brand and included that innovation should be geared toward space exploration because he sees another space race on the horizin like the one between the US and the USSR. Musk also said that in terms of military aircraft, the US needs to look to developing a competitor to Lockheed Martin's F-35 fighter jet and he suggests that more efforts should be invested in unmanned areal vehicles (drones aircraft) in order to get a head start on potential enemy nations for air warfare superiority.
