All the talk in the United States this week has been about the midterm elections that took place. I was interested on how the midterm elections would affect the world economy, especially when it comes to trade. I was surprised to see in this article that the midterm elections are not predicted to change anything with the trade war between China and the United States. Democrats and Republicans both agree that their should be a tougher stance on Chinese trade and intellectual property. The House becoming predominantly Democratic should propose too much of a pushback on the Trump administration in this case.
If Trump tries to impose a tarriff on the EU or withdraw from the WTO, he will probably face major challenges from the House. Democrats will most likely not support this if either of these choices are made.
